What I know about it:

It is a straight, constant line on a graph. ( The rate is constant or never changes )

If the line is not straight all the way up to the top of the graph then it is not linear.

The x coorodinate plane is the independent varible and goes up at a constant rate it can not change. The y coordinate plane is the dependent varible and can be changed.

For a graph to be linear, the y axis must go up while the y axis goes up. Or the x axis goes down while the y axis goes down too.
